Size of planar domains and existence of minimizers of the Ginzburg-Landau energy with semi-stiff boundary conditions

چکیده
The Ginzburg-Landau energy with semi-stiff boundary conditions is an intermediate model between the full Ginzburg-Landau equations, which make appear both a condensate wave function and a magnetic potential, and the simplified Ginzburg-Landau model, coupling the condensate wave function to a Dirichlet boundary condition. In the semi-stiff model, there is no magnetic potential. The boundary data is not fixed, but circulation is prescribed on the boundary. Mathematically, this leads to prescribing the degrees on the components of the boundary. The corresponding problem is variational, but non compact: in general, energy minimizers do not exist. Existence of minimizers is governed by the topology and the size of the underlying domain. We propose here various notions of domain size related to existence of minimizers , and discuss existence of minimizers or critical points, as well as their uniqueness and asymptotic behavior. We also present the state of the art in the study of this model, accounting results obtained during the last decade by L.V. Berlyand, M. Dos Santos, A. Farina, D. Golovaty, X. Lamy, V. Rybalko, E. Sandier, and the author. CONTENTS

Solutions with Vortices of a Semi-Stiff Boundary Value Problem for the Ginzburg-Landau Equation
We study solutions of the 2D Ginzburg-Landau equation −∆u + 1 ε2 u(|u| − 1) = 0 subject to “semi-stiff” boundary conditions: Dirichlet conditions for the modulus, |u| = 1, and homogeneous Neumann conditions for the phase. The principal result of this work shows that there are stable solutions of this problem with zeros (vortices), which are located near the boundary and have bounded energy in t...

We consider a Ginzburg-Landau type energy with a piecewise constant pinning term a in the potential (a − |u|). The function a is di erent from 1 only on nitely many disjoint domains, called the pinning domains. These pinning domains model small impurities in a homogeneous superconductor and shrink to single points in the limit ε → 0; here, ε is the inverse of the Ginzburg-Landau parameter. We s...

Suppose that ω ⊂ Ω ⊂ R. In the annular domain A = Ω \ ω̄ we consider the class J of complex valued maps having degree 1 on ∂Ω and ∂ω. It was conjectured in [5] that the existence of minimizers of the Ginzburg-Landau energy Eκ in J is completely determined by the value of the H-capacity cap(A) of the domain and the value of the Ginzburg-Landau parameter κ. The existence of minimizers of Eκ for al...
متن کاملUniqueness of vortexless Ginzburg-Landau type minimizers in two dimensions
In a simply connected two dimensional domain Ω, we consider Ginzburg-Landau minimizers u with zero degree Dirichlet boundary condition g ∈ H1/2(∂Ω;S1). We prove uniqueness of u whenever either the energy or the Ginzburg-Landau parameter are small. This generalizes a result of Ye and Zhou requiring smoothness of g. We also obtain uniqueness when Ω is multiply connected and the degrees of the vor...
